What birds can the Trust accommodate?
The aim of this Trust is to care for oiled seabirds (auks) first and foremost, and this has always been the focus of our attention because these birds need specialist treatment. However, in the past we have been able to accommodate a variety of other seabirds and garden birds too, but that changed when we closed one of our treatment centres.
At the present time, with the limited resources at our disposal, we have had to reduce our capacity considerably, which means we can only accommodate birds that are compatible with the birds we are set up to deal with, namely pelagic birds such as Guillemots and Razorbills.
We can no longer take in Herring gulls or Black-backed gulls. These are the larger of the gull species in the UK and they require separate accommodation from the birds that are the focus of our attention. We hope this will change in the future.
We can care for :-
Left. Gannets mature & juvenile. Right Black-headed gulls with Guillemot.
Left: Kittiwake (the true sea gull), Centre: Gt.Crested Grebe, Right: Puffin

.
Left : Fulmar Right: Red-throated diver

Left: Little auk, Right : Storm petrel

We always have some auks at the centre, so we can also care for baby guillemots if the need arises as the mature birds take them back to the wild for us.
Left below : baby guillemot - just arrived. Right : baby takes his first swim.
